A STORY OF LOVE AND BLUE STEEL
AT DETROIT PIZZA, WE’RE ABOUT 3 THINGS.
And that’s quality ingredients, serving an amazing product, and going the extra mile for our customers.
It all started with an idea, never waste a pandemic they say…
In 2020, when London – a global food capital – locked down, Detroit Pizza London came to life. The concept was born out of necessity, during this time of uncertainty and confusion. We had a nostalgic feeling, a yearning for home…and that’s how Detroit Pizza London started.
When we first opened, Detroit Pizza was trading out of a literal hole in the wall in a Network Rail graveyard in Battersea. Customers picked up their orders through a dark sketchy alleyway, and after a few weeks, queues started to form, people coming for their fix of the most unique pizza in town.
We couldn’t tell our story though, without paying respect to the OG’s like the original Buddy’s on Six Mile, Cloverleaf, and Shawn Randazzo.
Having an entire pandemic to focus on dough, hydration, and fermentation while mastering the perfect marinara is what elevates us into the new world of Detroit-style pizzas and the American experience.
THE BLUE STEEL BACKSTORY
Detroit-style pizza represents the city’s character of innovation, resilience, and passion. In 1946, Gus Guerra revolutionized the pizza world by creating the iconic square pie, famous for its unique crust and crispy cheese edges. The secret to its deliciousness lies in the pan – thick, cast-iron-like steel pans that give the pizza its distinctive soft, airy, square crust with a crunchy exterior. Rumor has it that Gus got his first pans from a car parts factory, inspiring our #cookedincarparts tag.
Ever since, people have been fighting for the prized corner slices of Detroit-style pizza. We are proud to continue this tradition with our blue steel pans, which symbolize our rich culinary heritage.
We are a walk-in-only eatery. You can order our menu to go. Pick-up is available.
